- All bouquets are delivered without water and will need to be cut and rehydrated
- Upon delivery, please take the following steps:
- Remove flowers from the box and remove all wrapping or packaging material
- Fill the vase with a solution of cool water and flower food
- Note: Flower Food should be mixed according to the instructions on the packet; the packet includes more than enough food for the vase – recipients do not need to use the entire packet when filling their vase.
- Not all bouquets will include or require flower food - tulips and other bulb flowers don’t respond well to flower food.
- Replace the water completely every few days will help to maximize vase life
- Strip stems of most foliage (especially any that would fall below the water line in the vase)
- All stems need to be trimmed at least ¼ inch, ideally to 14-16 inches in height (though some shorter vases will require more trimming.
- Stems should be trimmed at a 45 degree angle
- Stems should be cut with a sharp straight-edge knife or floral shears; kitchen scissors will crush the stems and prevent flowers from hydrating properly
- Once cut, place stems in water immediately; leaving stems out of water for several minutes will cause them to seal and prevent hydration
- Place your finished arrangement in a cool spot away from sources of heat or direct sunlight
- Keep bouquets away from ripening produce or other flowers. All flowers and produce release ethylene gas as they age which will cause flowers to wilt more quickly.
- Remove any spent or wilting blooms from the bouquet to help prolong vase life.
- Top up and check the vase water regularly; if it ever becomes cloudy, replace it and retrim the stems.
This may seem like a lot, but I promise that it will become simple and routine very quickly. Essentially it boils down to: trimming the stems and keeping the water clean. If you can do that, you’re already ahead of the game. Our Happiness team is also available 24/7 to answer any questions!
